It's Not About the Destination, It's About the Journey
And a journey it has been. I began my freshman year unsure if I had made the right decision in my major, and wanting to explore other options. I was like all other college freshmen: scared out of my mind. It took two semesters of class for me to realize I was learning about the wrong things. Yeah they were interesting, but I couldn't imagine learning about education for the rest of my life. I discovered that my education classes were too easy and not challenging me. It bothered me quite a bit that I was not pushing myself and was not being academically stimulated by the work I was assigned.
That is when I began looking into engineering. Ever since I was young, I loved to build things with my grandpa. He would come over and help us remodel the house or fix the deck. Then I began to go over to his house to help build things there. I realized this is what I was missing. I love to design things like decks and rooms and bridges, and it is academically challenging. I have most of my math courses done, so architectural engineering seemed like a better fit for me. I took the leap and am incredibly excited to see what the next year has in store.
My journey has been a windy one so far, but worth it. Every twist and turn helps develop my character, and this year has been the year of discoveries. I loved the days in class when we were given straws and paper clips to build a tower, but hated the days when we talked about the problems with our education system. Don't get me wrong, I still think that education issues are incredibly important, but I am more interested in other things. I cannot wait to continue my education studying something I enjoy, to meet more friends, and to begin a new journey of sophomore year. Freshman year is all about discovery and the journey. It most definitely was, and I cannot wait for more.
