What is Intermediate Honors English?
Intermediate Honors English is a course at the University of Cincinnati offered to help improve composition, give students a better understanding of genre, and help to continue learning the nuances of the English language.
What did I Learn in this Course?
This class provided little guidance and instruction; therefore, making the students more independent learners. With multiple papers and reading assignments due throughout the course, it taught me to stay organized and on top of my work. Due dates would change frequently which pushed for the need to stay updated and organized.
There was a small aspect in the course that revolved around research. For the papers, we needed to find a couple sources to back our opinions, therefore research was involved. Finding credible sources, using relevant information, and writing a bibliography were some of the skills needed to write the papers. The last paper of the year was an interview of someone in the field we are currently studying in. We had to interview the person, write down the useful information, and then write the information into a cohesive paper.
How can I apply this knowledge to my future?
After interviewing an engineer, I felt more prepared for future interviews or meetings. The interview was helpful because I needed to take an abundance of information, and turn it into a paper that flowed nicely together. These two skills will be very important in the future because I will need to know how to act in an interview and when given copious amounts of information, how to pull out the most important aspects.
Example of my work:
