2017-2018 school year in review
Yet another change this year! I went back to an education major in CECH. I am here to stay and will graduate in 2020. I also realized I am super close to a Spanish major, so I decided to add that as well! After another semester of teaching classes and registering for next semester now I am excited about classes, the discussions, and my future as a high school math teacher!
This school year was mainly about classes and studying, however I did find ways to get out into the community and enjoy the city! All of my volunteering hours came from Bearcat Buddies, notetaking for a fellow student, and grading math assignments at a math competition on campus in the Spring. I have been doing Bearcat buddies for six semesters now and still love it. Next semester they are starting a leadership program, so I hope to be a part of that! This year I was a tutor for a kindergarten class, and I helped my buddy learn the alphabet and some beginner reading words. It was a really special relationship I formed with her!
During fall semester I was on co-op for engineering. I am very thankful for my engineering co-ops because it was through these experiences that I discovered I do not want to be an engineer! I loved the classes but did not like the work (that's the important part!). So I met with the academic advisor I had freshman year, and we figured out how and when to switch majors. After the official switch, I was more than excited to get started! I could hardly wait, but was full of emotions. Part of me was excited to work on new classes that I enjoyed, but the other part of me was nervous about losing my friends from engineering and making new ones in teaching. Next year I start student teaching!
Spring semester arrived and I was officially in education. I made friends almost immediately and was roommates with my closest friend from engineering. I worked as a tutor at the LAC, so I was still involved on campus as well!
I ended the semester with a big bang! I completed an honors proposal and it got accepted! So I traveled to Australia for the whole month of May! It was a blast, I learned so much about myself, my exhaustion levels, and how much FUN traveling is! I really enjoyed my time abroad, and I am so happy to be back home. It is good to have experiences to learn and grow, but it is always good to have a place to return and to call home.
